Endometriosis and the Rest of You

Endometriosis

Endometriosis needs a medical diagnosis and gynaecological management. Please see your GP, and ask about endometriosis by name — the average delay to diagnosis is measured in years, largely because the pain got normalised. Hormonal treatment, pelvic health physiotherapy and surgery are the real options and they are not on this page.

What this page is about is the rest of it: the twenty-something days a month between appointments, which is where people actually live with this. A whole-picture appointment covers what the pain does to sleep, how much time is being lost from work or study, what the bowel does through the cycle — because bowel symptoms are common and often unmentioned — how the fatigue tracks, and what has quietly been given up.

Several things are worth working on in their own right. Pelvic floor muscles that have been guarding for years become a separate pain source, and that is a pelvic health physiotherapist\u{2019}s territory, not a massage one. Constipation makes everything worse and is manageable. Sleep debt lowers pain thresholds measurably. And the mental load of a condition that nobody could see for a decade is real; psychological support for chronic pain is not a suggestion that the pain is in your head.

We also help with the practical: what to bring to a gynaecology appointment, what to track, and how to describe pain in a way that gets taken seriously. The clinic is in Lane Cove, five minutes from the village, and we write to your GP.
