Working with the whole picture — sleep, digestion, mood, pain, the shape of the week — is the approach here. It is also exactly why the medical details matter: a plan that touches several parts of your life has more places to go wrong if something has been left out.
So the history is long on purpose, and the parts that seem unrelated are often the ones that change the plan.
Everything, including what you bought yourself and anything herbal. It determines what is appropriate more than any other single piece of information.
Blood thinners and antiplatelet medicines change technique and make bruising more likely. Long-term steroids and biologics affect skin and healing. Medicines that affect blood pressure change how we have you get up off the table.
Several techniques and points are avoided through pregnancy, and the picture shifts as it progresses. Fertility treatment adds timing considerations of its own. Say so early rather than once the appointment has started.
Pacemaker, defibrillator, nerve stimulator, pump. Electrical techniques are not used near an implanted cardiac device; ordinary treatment is unaffected.
Lymphoedema, or lymph nodes removed on one side. That limb is not needled, permanently, and it stays in the notes so a different practitioner does not have to be told again.
Diabetes affecting the feet, neuropathy from any cause, numbness after surgery. The issue is feedback: if you cannot feel pressure or heat reliably, the usual safety mechanism is missing. Heat work in particular is reconsidered.
Cancer treatment, transplant medication, biologics. Usually workable with stricter technique, and better coordinated with the team treating you. Timing within a cycle matters.
Fresh scars, grafts, active infections, unexplained rashes and broken skin are worked around until they have settled.
It does not replace a diagnosis. If something is new, if it is getting worse, or if it comes with weight loss, bleeding, chest pain, breathlessness or a neurological change, the first appointment you need is with your GP. Low mood lasting more than a couple of weeks belongs there too.
We will say that plainly when it applies, including when you were hoping to hear something else.
