Acupoint thread embedding and acupuncture often appear together online, but they are different procedures. Here is what to ask before deciding.
Search for acupuncture and weight in the same breath and you will soon meet acupoint thread embedding. The two often share a page, a photo or a hashtag, which makes it easy to assume they are variations on one treatment. They are not, and the difference has real consequences for how you decide.
In a standard acupuncture session, every fine needle is taken out before you leave. Thread embedding places absorbable material under the skin, where it remains after the appointment is over. Something left in the tissues raises different questions about consent, possible reactions and how you look after the area in the days that follow.

Concerns about weight rarely sit on their own. Sleep, stress, emotional eating, hormones, medicines and daily movement can all be tangled up together, and they deserve a thoughtful conversation. An attractive weight-loss claim attached to a procedure should never stand in for an honest look at evidence, other options and risks. Your GP can also be a valuable part of that discussion.

When you meet Dr Christine Shen, Acupuncturist, ask her to name exactly which procedure she is proposing and to describe what it involves step by step. Invasive techniques each need their own explanation and their own suitability check, so a general description of acupuncture does not cover embedding, and the reverse is also true.
A helpful first conversation separates the concern from the change you hope for. Perhaps you want to feel more comfortable walking, to understand why your energy dips in the afternoon, or to know when another health professional should be involved. Ask Christine how any acupuncture plan would be reviewed and what would lead to adjusting it.
You are welcome to go home and think it over. At the Lane Cove clinic, choosing not to go ahead with a procedure, or choosing a gentler starting point, is respected as a normal part of making an informed decision about your own body.
